About Iron Sulfide powder

Iron sulfide is a naturally occurring chemical compound formed from iron and sulfur. It is commonly found in mineral forms such as pyrite and marcasite and is often recognized by its metallic luster and brassy yellow to dark brown color. Because of its appearance it is sometimes called fools gold as it resembles real gold. Iron sulfide is brittle and can easily break into small pieces. It does not dissolve in water but reacts with acids to release hydrogen sulfide gas which has a strong smell. This compound is found in sedimentary rocks coal deposits and hydrothermal veins. In industries iron sulfide is widely used for producing sulfur dioxide which is further used in making sulfuric acid. It also plays a role in steel glass and chemical manufacturing. While useful it must be handled carefully because it can oxidize when exposed to air and produce harmful gases in certain conditions.
